J.E.D.I. Symposium - Jens Ludwig and UlrichTrautwein

Educational impacts beyond test scores

Thursday, 17 November 2022, 16:00 – 17:30 h (CET)

Prof. Dr. Jens Ludwig and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Trautwein will jointly discuss the topic
“Educational impacts beyond test scores”

In the discussion with the two panellists, we will focus on understanding whether we should go beyond test scores and, if yes, which other dimensions we should consider when analysing educational impacts. We will also discuss examples of Randomised Controlled Trials that have gone beyond measuring test scores when analysing child development outcomes. After a joint discussion between the moderator and the two panellists, the audience is welcome to join the discussion as well.

Prof. Dr. Jens Ludwig, University of Chicago
He has written extensively in the area of education about early childhood interventions and the role of social conditions in affecting children’s schooling outcomes. In the area of crime, Ludwig has written extensively about gun-violence prevention. Through the Crime Lab, he is also involved in partnering with policymakers in Chicago, New York City, and across the country to use tools from social science, behavioural science, and computer science to identify effective ways to help prevent crime and violence.

Prof. Dr. Ulrich Trautwein, University of Tübingen
His area of research is empirical educational research, broadly defined. In particular, his research interests are directed primarily to the development of self-referent cognitions in the school context, school management, and the influence of homework on school achievement.
