In this study, Drs. Annekatrin Steinhoff, Lilly Shanahan and colleagues examined the age-related course of self-injury from ages 13 to 20, recurrence of this behavior and also services use among adolescents with self-injury. The study revealed that about 1 in 4 adolescents in Zurich have engaged in self-injury by age 20, and that the age-related course of self-injury and the reasons for services use differ for males and females.
