Dr. Clarissa Janousch (also at Psychiatric University Hospital, Experimental Pharmacopsychology and Psychological Addiction Research, led by Prof. Boris Quednow) and Dr. Laura Bechtiger from the Risk and Resilience group led by Prof. Lilly Shanahan have been awarded a Seed Grant from the UZH Population Research Center to investigate the rising youth mental health crisis and its underlying factors (19,740 CHF).
The youth mental health crisis has garnered significant attention in recent years, with numerous studies examining various contributing factors. Yet, health-risk behaviors, including physical inactivity, poor diet, substance use, and risky sexual behavior, remain underexplored as potential determinants of these trends. This project will examine secular changes in health-risk behaviors over the past two decades and their connections to mental distress among adolescents using data from the Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HBSC) study. More information about the project can be found here.
