Mental health problems among youth and the opioid epidemic are ongoing concerns in the United States. A recent paper by Prof. Lilly Shanahan and colleagues in JAMA Pediatrics shows that childhood depression and use of tobacco and cannabis are associated with increased risk of opioid use in young adulthood.
