The Swiss Evidence in Education Lab

Translating Research into Policy in Switzerland

The Swiss Evidence in Education Lab is a collaborative initiative by the Jacobs Foundation and the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development (JCPYD). It aims to translate evidence in educational and developmental research in Switzerland to make it better accessible to education authorities, policymakers, and stakeholders. The ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between research, policy, and practice for informed decision-making. While this working group addresses local challenges, it aligns with the global efforts of the EU Horizon Project LEARN's Evidence in Education Lab (EdLab) and, therefore, will contribute to broader international objectives.

The Swiss EdLab focuses on six key activity areas:

  • Reviewing, translating, and disseminating evidence from the education and developmental sciences and related fields
  • Developing tools for evidence-based policy design
  • Promoting evidence literacy in a Certificate for Advanced Studies on Evidence and Innovation in the Education System
  • Facilitating evidence uptake through continued, two-way communication.
  • Analyzing population-based longitudinal data to examine education-related outcomes, including the impact of policy interventions on attainment, final grades, educational trajectories, and other indicators such as cognitive and linguistic performance and/or socio-emotional experiences.
  • Conducting country-specific analyses aligned with our partners in Switzerland and Europe

By building evidence evaluation skills, fostering a community of practice, and encouraging dialogue with stakeholders from research, policy, and practice, the Swiss EdLab seeks to drive sustainable change in the Swiss education system.
